Nintendo and Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the outer limits of the universe. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
In the vein of the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will meet again some well-known personalities, such as the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The film will welcome back of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
The new Mario movie is planned to debut near the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
The company has three new games officially announced for the upcoming year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
