Prince William is scheduled to attend the important UN climate summit in Brazil in the coming weeks, though the PM's participation remains to be determined.
The Prince will present the Earthshot prize and engage with the gathering of delegates from more than 190 nations in Belém.
Climate specialists applauded the royal's participation. One consultant noted that it would lift what is expected to be a difficult conference, where global consensus on fresh targets for reducing climate pollutants is required.
"Is Prince William presence at the summit a stunt? Yes. But it doesn't imply it's a poor decision," the expert said. "Cop has often been as much about so-called 'optics' as it is about talks. The Prince's decision will almost certainly motivate other leaders to participate, and will draw worldwide attention."
"I believe the Prince understands clearly that by showing up, he'll draw numerous of viewers to the summit. In an era when global warming consequences are growing, but press attention is falling, any effort that highlights the issue should be celebrated."
The monarch has participated in past UN summits, but will not be going in Cop30.
A leader from a sustainability organization remarked: "Everyone must contribute – and every influential individual like Prince William, present assisting argue for the difficult task that is required, is probably a good thing."
"The monarch] was in his previous role when he went to the Glasgow summit and contributed to energize discussions. I don't believe it necessarily needs the prince and the king to participate."
The British prime minister has yet to announce if they plans to join the conference, to which every international officials are invited, with scores already confirmed. He was strongly criticized by prominent climate advocates for appearing to waver on the commitment earlier this month.
"World leaders need to be in the summit location for Cop30. Attendance is not a courtesy, it is a demonstration of responsibility. This is the time to establish more ambitious government targets and the funding to achieve them, especially for preparedness" to the impacts of the climate crisis.
