Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to US legislators and hindering a congressional proceeding.
The former director's lawyer submitted the answer acting as his counsel in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on mid-week.
His attorney stated he would attempt to have the case thrown out for multiple factors including that his the accused, a opponent of Donald Trump, was being targeted.
Mr Comey was charged shortly after Donald Trump pushed his top legal official to proceed against him.
During the hearing on mid-week, the defense counsel Patrick Fitzgerald told the judge they aimed to submit several petitions to dismiss the proceedings before a court case, claiming the government's case was retaliatory and that a government lawyer was improperly appointed to handle the legal matter.
Mr Comey's proceedings was originally overseen by a Virginia prosecutor, who resigned under influence from the former president after his probe into an additional rival - the New York official - failed to file indictments.
The former director appeared in good spirits as he entered the court on mid-week, conversing with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was supported by his partner, Mrs Failor and child Maureen, a government attorney who the Trump administration terminated.
Following the reading to the court read his rights and the dual charges against him in legal proceedings on mid-week, James Comey was inquired if he understood the allegations.
"Absolutely your honour. Appreciate it," he informed the court.
The former director was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from four years and was terminated about several months into the former president's first term as commander-in-chief. At the period, he was leading an investigation into international campaign influence and whether there were any connections between Moscow and the presidential campaign.
While in office, the director caused a counter-response from Democrats when he declared just shortly prior to the national vote that he was investigating presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Legal actions against Clinton were never brought, leading to disapproval from the Republican party as well.
The federal government claim James Comey provided false information to US lawmakers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being interrogated about both the Clinton investigation as well as the election interference investigation. They allege he provided false information to the upper house by claiming he had not authorized a person at the FBI to release to journalistic entities details about the FBI investigations.
Legal representatives also allege Mr Comey of "improperly attempting to influence, block and impede" the legislative group by making false statements to it.
In a video James Comey shared to his Instagram after he was accused, he stated he was not guilty and charged Trump of behaving like a "dictator".
"We have been aware for years that there are costs to standing up to the former president," he said. "We refuse to live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he continued. "Therefore proceed with a trial."
The accusations against Mr Comey came after Donald Trump published on social media demanding his attorney general, the attorney general, take legal action against James Comey and others.
