Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found numerous interesting indie games. However, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop trying to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is simple: you only need a jump control. In 150 levels, battle boss fights and visit a store to purchase outfits for your dung hero.
Execute your movements carefully, as a error forces starting over. Bounce using floating orbs to propel the poop higher, traverse disappearing ledges, and interact with triggers to unlock secret routes. Gather UN-KOINS for buying more difficult stages in which gameplay intensifies.
Graphically, the game shows off vibrant level designs and a killer music score. The simple graphics of morphing geometric shapes could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to name previous releases where you are a coiled turd, gaming often included fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. Naturally, this theme is present extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release set to launch on Steam in the fall.
